What We Believe

The Bible

We believe that the Holy Bible is of divine origin, divinely inspired (God-breathed), without falsehoods (infallible), and without errors (inerrant) in the original writings penned by God’s chosen human authors. Therefore, it is and shall remain the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man. The Bible is the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, religions, and opinions should be tried. Moreover, we believe that the Bible is the only authority by which the beliefs and practices of individual Christians and local churches should be governed (Josh. 1:8; Psalm 1; Eph. 5:25-26; 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21).

God

We believe in one God, God the Father and Lord Almighty. He is the maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible (Gen. 1:1; Deut. 6:4; Job 40-41; Isa. 42:8; Isa. 45:5; Jer. 32:27).

We believe in the Trinity. Thus, we believe that God the Father exists in a triune relationship with God the Son and God the Holy Spirit as the Godhead. The Trinity is an inexplicable paradox to human reasoning, yet it is a foundational truth of the Christian faith (Isaiah 55:8; Matt. 3:16-17; Rom. 1:20; Rom. 11:33; Col. 2:9; 1 John 5:7).

Jesus

We believe in one Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ the Son of God, the only-begotten Son of God, coeternal and coexistent with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father, possessing two equal natures; human and divine (John 1:1-2; Phil. 3:5-11; Col. 2:9; 1 John 4:2-3; 1 John 5:6; 2 John 1:7).

We believe that by Jesus Christ all things were made both in heaven and on earth, seen and unseen (Gen. 1:1; John 1:3; Col. 1:16-17).

We believe that Jesus Christ, for all of humanity, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and became flesh through the overshadowing power of the Holy Ghost over the virgin Mary, who conceived Christ in her womb and bore Him after the natural manner so that He entered into the human experience as a man, yet living the entirety of His human life without sin (Matt. 1:18-25; Luke 1:35; John 1:14; Hebrews 4:14-15).

We believe that Jesus Christ was an actual person, whose existence is cooberated by the historical testimony of the ancient historians. He was crucified for us, as our substitute, under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. Afterwards, Christ ascended into heaven, and now sits on the right hand of God the Father; from thence he shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead and whose kingdom shall have no end (Rom. 8:34; 1 Cor. 15:1-4; Hebrews 12:2)

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, the third person of the Trinity, coequal and coexistent with God the Father and God the Son, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified and who spake by the prophets (2 Pet. 1:21; I John 5:7)

We believe the Holy Spirit was active in creation and currently works in the life of Christ’s converts and disciples by sealing, empowering, teaching, illuminating, sanctifying, and helping them to be conformed into the image of Christ (Gen. 1:2; John 14:26; John 15:26; John16:13; Rom. 8:29; Eph. 1:13).

We believe the Holy Spirit’s current ministry among humanity is to restrain evil, to convict people of sin, judgment, and righteousness, to bear witness to the truth of Bible and the gospel, to empower preaching and the local church, to be the active agent effecting conversion (John 16:7-11; 2 Thes. 2:6-7; Tit. 3:5).

Salvation

We believe that man was created in innocence under the law of God the Father, his creator, but by voluntary transgression, he fell from his sinless state, in consequence of which, all mankind are now sinners and therefore under just condemnation and are guilty before God (Gen. 3; Romans 5:12; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:10, 23).

We believe that salvation is for individual people (personal) and is wholly of grace through faith alone in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-9; 1 Cor. 15:1-4). Therefore, we reject any teaching that declares that salvation is only obtained by association in an ecclesiastical body, reformation of lifestyle, liberation of the community from political, social, or economic injustice, or confirmed by an active assessment of the integrity of their conversion to Christ by an ecclesiastical board or council.

We believe that eternal salvation is exclusively through the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who by the appointment of God the Father freely took upon Himself our nature, yet without sin and by the shedding of His blood made a full atonement (payment) for our sins. Therefore, we reject all other religious systems as equally valid alternative pathways to eternal life.  As such, we reject the philosophy of universalism, or universal salvation as a credible alternative to historic Christian orthodoxy (beliefs) (John 10:1; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Rom. 3:25; Rom. 5:9; Phil. 3:5-11; Heb. 4:15; 1 John 1:7).

We believe that in order to gain Christ’s free gift of salvation, one must be born again (transformed/converted) in their heart; that the new birth is the new creation in Jesus Christ; that in the new birth, a genuine convert to Christ is dead in trespasses and in sins and is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life as the free gift of God (John 3:16; 5; Rom. 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9).

The Church

We believe that a biblical church is a local, autonomous congregation of converted (saved) and baptized Christians, led by a singular pastor, who voluntarily assemble together under an agreed upon covenant of faith and practice in an agreed upon place and time (John 20:1, 19; Acts 1:13-15; Acts 2:41-47; Acts 5:14; Acts 11:24; Acts 20:7).

The Mission and Purpose of the Church

The Great Commission

We believe the biblical purpose of the local church is to carryout Christ’s evangelistic mandate, called the Great Commission. Christ’s missional injunction functions in three parts: proclaiming the gospel, baptizing converts, and making disciples of the new converts. As such, we believe that every Christian should be engaged in the verbal communication of the gospel of Christ to those within their spheres of influence and through out the concourse of their lives. Christ’s evangelistic directive is for individual Christians to obey as much as it is for the local church corporately. (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; John 20:22; Acts 1:8).

The Great Commandment

We believe the next purpose of the local church is to be a family that fosters spiritual growth and maturity among its members within an environment of community, charity, and benevolence among its members by living out Christ’s command to love God and love others, called the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:35-40; Mark 12:30-31; John 13:34; Acts 4:34-37; 1 John 4:21; 2 John 1:5).
